Our Events

2026 Black Maternal Health week

As we look ahead to the celebration of Black Maternal Health Week, we want to share important context with our community.

We have made the decision to change the location of this year’s annual event. We remain deeply saddened by the sexual assault that occurred at Spot Lite in December. Spot Lite, like many institutions, has room and opportunity to strengthen its crisis response and survivor support. Simultaneously, we also recognize that creating safer, more accountable spaces is an ongoing responsibility we all share.

We believe in the continued work of Spot Lite and their commitment to growth- (https://www.spotlitedetroit.com/safer-space). At the same time, we have listened closely to community feedback, and in alignment with those voices, we will be hosting this year’s Black Maternal Health Week celebration at the LOVE Building.

This work holds transformative power. We remain committed to working alongside survivors and one another to build spaces, systems, and policies that foster safety, care, and accountability. At a time when those with the most power are so often shielded from consequences, we are mindful of who is- and is not- held responsible.

We will continue to organize, to CELEBRATE, and to sustain ourselves by rooting iin liberation and joy.

Join us as we LOVE on each other and ourselves on April 17th from 12–2 PM at the LOVE Building- 4731 Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 48208..

If you are navigating the impact of sexual violence, please know you are not alone. We encourage you to reach out to these trusted local resources who can offer skilled care and the support you deserve.
